Default A final day.

So, here we are. Today my little cowboy's hip went and he couldn't get up. I managed to get it under him, but it went again a little while later, and again this evening. So here we are, the place I knew was coming, but tried to pretend was not.
I've called my vet, spoken with him, and we have an appointment for 7:30 tomorrow evening. Andrew and I are planning a big dinner for our boy, no doubt cheese will be involved- how could it not!? and a lamb's heart from Superquinn, and perhaps some whipped cream, a perpetual favourite.
I am broken-hearted and can't stop crying, no matter how much I try compartmentalise it all. I know all dogs must die, but dammit, it just hurts so much to let this special little man go. He's asleep now, dreaming of who knows what, and tomorrow we will be with him every step of the way until he is gone. I honestly do not think I will ever get another dog as long as I live and none could replace this little floppy-eared chap. My thanks to you all, and my best wishes to you also. Long may you enjoy your hounds as I have enjoyed and loved Opus, 15 years of unrelenting and unconditional love.

I am so very sorry you have to make such a heart-rending decision to let Mr. Opus go.

All of you will be on my mind tomorrow.

Go in peace, Opus, and know there will be lots of friends waiting for you, and I bet the buffet will have lots of cheese and whipped cream.

Bless sweet Opus. So very sorry. I know first hand how this feels having lost my boy in May. It hurts, but you're doing the right thing. To let one linger and suffer because of our selfishness is unkind as you obviously know. Thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this time.

I am soooo sorry. Loosing your soul pup is the worst thing in the world. You made the right decision for your boy, the pain will almost go away and the memories will always remain with you for your lifetime.

Never say never again, noone will ever replace him, but others need your love and attention in the future.
