Default Names

Hi all! Just a fun little thread to ask how you all came upon your chosen names?

I will start it off. After going on my own to have a look at a litter of pups (my partner was on a late shift). I returned home with a picture of him and a small problem, a name! We had initially planned to have a female but upon seeing the 1 little boy I knew he had to be mine. So me and my partner sat down with the mission of finding a name, in the end the list was long but we settled upon the name Hector because of a character in one of our favourite films, and tbh he should be relieved as he was nearly Elton!

Elton! Love it

Annie Oakley was the first name that popped into my head when I was going to see the litter, so her name was pretty much chosen before I even saw her. But once I did see her, I knew it fit like a glove.

Lucy was named by her foster mom's daughter... Her brother was Jack! It always struck me as funny, because I kept thinking of the movie "While You Were Sleeping." Jack went with a friend of mine, and Lucy came with me. I loved that movie so much, I just kept the name.

When I got that call that Millie was available, I thought she was a boy. Her name was listed as Rascal, and that was about all they told me about her. I had planned on naming her Elvis, until I got to her foster mom's house. That's when I found out my little Elvis was really a girl... I was reading a lot of westerns at that time, and liked the name Millie. It seemed like such an old name...

Turns out, Lucy means "bringer of light" and Millie means "provider of strength." I kind of like that!

Lucy came to us with her name from the rescue

Rickie we named to go with our “Lucy” – if you’re too young to know why I’m not telling

Mabel – was named by Flash’s doctor who is now “Aunt Julie” to Mabel. With all that she did for Flash I wanted her to be part of our new daughter so I asked her to give Mabel her name.

Maggie Mae was name after a character Maggie from a John Wayne movie as my wife is a big John Wayne fan. The Mae spelling came from the Beatles. The vets office tried to spell it May. I told them that would be Rod Stewart. When we fostered Daisy she was called Daisy Wiggles on the rescue web site because when she wagged her tail her whole back end wiggled due to her hips. When we adopted her we kept the name.

When we went to get the "one" basset pup Saturday, my kids and I decided to name her Bella Claire, but when we got there and decided to get both, we divided the name to one of them being Bella and the other Claira. So far, we have come up with a middle name for Bella, Maise. My son said the zig zag pattern on her back looked like a maze. We're still working out Claira's name.

Henry was going to be Sampson, He was also supposed to be lemon and white and was the only red and white of the litter which i definatly did not want. Anyway as soon as i saw him he decided he was coming home with us and he just looks like a Henry! [Although my mother reminds me that when i was little she used to read us books about a naughty boy called horrible Henry so it fits that he has naughty boy moments!]
The next my husband says will be called Optimus Prime due to the ability to transform from cute and lovely to bad dog! lol

haha, melikes Transformers. and what interesting & fun stories. k, here's mine:

my peeples thought i look like I belong inside a British pub, sleeping right by the fireplace, so they had a long list of British names for me (yes, we knew bassets are French.. haha, but somehow dainty Parisian didn't seem to fit the bill...)...

so, the names included (I'm thinking of my British friend Henry...):
--Dalton (that's the one a lot of family members liked)
--Covington ("Covey)
-- Kensington (I was this name for 3 days before they thought it was too hard to say, or "Kenny")
--Churchill
--Chaucer

They also liked alcohol names like:
--Bourbon
--Cognac

but eventually, I just looked so wormlike (squirmy skinny basset... and had lotsa worms of different varieties in my belly), that I am just a Worm these days.

-----------------------------------------
on a separate note, when the peeples picked up the wiener dog awhile back, they were driving home & passed by a Trooper II SUV, so that dog became Trooper.

Such great stories! I'm still laughing at Optimus prime (I used to read horrid Henry, it's just been made into a film).

This is the first pet I have had that hasn't been named after a carry on actor.

I think worm suits Worm.

I presume Lucille Ball? I am a little young but she is a legend and I used to watch I love Lucy with my nan.
