Default Toby's Terrible Tummy

My 16-week old basset has been having a horrible time with intermittent stomach upset and diarrhea. It varies day by day. He is on his second round of Panacur, and now Flagyl as well. I have not changed his food, but have recently changed his treats to cut up boiled hot dogs (for training only). I have been hearing some loud stomach noises that sound like water moving through his belly. Anyone ever experience this?

Was he tested for parasites?

What worked for Pepper was scours remedy (for cattle). Ask your vet about this. She HATED it, but it did the trick. I think it's mostly heavy-duty immodium.

I just went through this with barey for giardia. He just finished his second round of panacur this time we used slippery elm root instead of flagyl. I would put him on a bland diet for a few days and stop with treats for now. I have to give barney boiled chicken and rice. The more different types of food he is getting the bigger risk something is upsetting his tummy.

Toby is on his second round of Panacur for giardia, and Flagyl for problems with diarrhea.

POOR BARNEY!!! Toby is literally going through the EXACT same thing. He is currently on his second round of Panacur also, and I am feeding him a bland diet for his poor tummy upset. I stopped the Flagyl, however, because it is causing him to completely lose interest in food. Poor Toby has had a rough couple days, but he is still as playful as ever! :-)

Try slippery elm it really helped Barney I stopped using the flagyl after the first round it was not helping with the diarrhea. Barney has not had any typ of diarrhea in 8 days so I am really happy about that. I went to a raw diet but my vet told me when giving the rice and boiled chicken after 5 days to slowly add in wet food or kibble. She also told me when I started the bland diet to feed less than I normally would. The second round of panacur also coincided with the diarrhea stopping but I was also giving slippery elm only about 4 doses over 2 days you should not use it for long. I am sorry you are going through this my brother's dog whom he got form a well known french bulldog show breeder has the same thing it seems tough to kick. Are you giving him a probiotic I also did that for a week or so. Barney was so so about eating for the first 5 weeks I had him but he is much better now that the diarrhea has stopped and he has put on the pound or 2 that he needed to. I hope Toby feels better soon.

Oh, Barney & Toby, I hope you guys are feeling better soon – nothing worse than a belly aches for a hound dog. And for them to be not interested in food? Poor babies. We’re hoping for a speedy recovery for you both.
