Default How old is too old?

Hi everyone... my girl is going through her cycle now and I know she's miserable. I keep thinking I'm going to get her "fixed" but always seem to forget until it's 'that time' again. Anyway, she just turned 3, so how old is too old in your opinions?

3 is a spring chicken, I usually get my girls spayed at 7-9.

I don't think there is a "too old" at least not until you reach a point where anesthesia becomes a big risk for very old dogs.

Speaking from my experience, I'd say it's never too late but do it. In Feb. I lost my sweet little beagle who was my best friend. She had a breast tumor and pretty much never made it through the operation. She was a bleeder. For reasons that I'll never forgive myself for, I didn't have her fixed. I really let her down. The chances of having these tumors are vastly reduced if fixed.

FWIW, I had a rescue spayed at 11. As long as the dog is healthy enough for surgery it can be done.

We had a happy healthy whippet spayed at 11 and she recovered well and faster than expected.
