........is currently crushing Pricey, yep I am being stomped all over by a 10 month (nearly 11 month) old puppy. He is currently around the 55 pound mark, is this huge for a pup of his age or normal? He is to look at a lovely weight, but from what I have read bassets start to fillout from about 12 months, is this correct? I have a friend with 2 bassets he is currently the same kind of height and length but not as wide.
I have also noticed a few new wrinkles appearing (top of legs and head) has anyone else noticed this in their pup/dog? I have asked my friend but they are not quite the font of all knowledge like you guys. Also I have noticed his nose seems a little longer than theirs but again after looking at some pics around the net there seems to be quite alot with a shorter snout and equally as many with a longer one. P.s sorry if this reads badly but I only meant to do a short post (as I'm on my phone) but I seem to of gotten carried away lol. |

I think Hector looks great! I have just noticed in the last few days Hen is starting to fill out so maybe your right about the 12 month thing. I will eagerly await the more informative replies than mine!

not sure what your definition of filling out is at 12 month there is not likely to be any further signifficant growth in hieght/ but by filling out you mean expantion of the rib cage buiding of mnuscle pass and look more mature rathan than teenagers we 12 months is extremely optomistic with noticiable change usual startin 18-24 months but many line start even later and some ,much later. Fischer my harrier wa 4-5 years old before he filled out any at all. and event then it was extemely most maybe a 2 lb gain in weight., is dogs that are spayed or nuetered any filling out is definately moderated compared to intact dogs as well. However spay/nuetered dog tend to gain fat more easily. Last edited by Mikey T; 10-16-2011 at 03:24 AM. |

also as growth end the body metabilism slows and the dog does not need as much calories. So many dogs at this age put on excess weight. Becoming obese is not the same as filling out but I often think the two do get confused sometimes

Thanks mikey, I was indeed referring to muscle tone, that chunky look rather than a fat butter ball.
I have also noticed his colour slowly changing, hector is a Tri colour and most of his back was originally black, however, pretty early on it started to go lighter. Bassets sure go through some changes as they grow. Thanks barneys mom and Henry's mom, I like to think hec is a handsome little guy. |
