I'm looking at a shih tzu/basset hound mix puppy. Am not certain if this is a good mix or not. I can't find much info on internet and was wondering if anyone knows anything about them. Would appreciate any feedback.

The only thing I have to say is when you get it please put up a picture. This has to be to cute.
I would think it would be a fine mix, why not. Both are good dogs so why would the mix not be. Go get it and let the fun begin. |

I bet it's cute, but the personalities of a basset and a shih tzu are so different, it seems they would cancel each other out! But it will be the sweetest dog in the world, that's for sure. Definitely post pics of this shihset.

Decided not to go with the puppy. The pictures are adorable..tried to post them here but once again, am having trouble....really don't know what I'm doing. Haven't seen the puppies in person but I was put off alittle when I found out that the mother was the shih tzu (at 10 lbs) and father basset (at 50 lbs). she had 7 puppies. I know absolutely nothing about breeding but that seems somewhat cruel to me but what do I know.....

You mean these were not an accident? If these people did this on purpose I don't think I would be getting one ether. I will not help these people that are doing things like this. I will not go off on a rant yet.

John and Renae MIller - Home
the website is John and Renae MIller - Home. she evidently is into "designer dogs". go to puppys for sale and then lucy's pups. do you think it's a puppy mill? Michigan has a wonderful basset rescue but they require a home visit and I live too far away so can't qualify. The only dogs up this way in the shelters, which I check every day, are labs. I love them but really want another basset. |

I am all for adopting mutts that were accidents. I have one myself, obviously. I don't think they're any worse than a purebred dog. I don't agree with the negative connotation of the word "mutt" and use it lovingly.
I am not opposed to buying a purebred puppy from a reputable breeder. However, I don't support the practice of making "designer breeds". You made the right decision to not buy a puppy. These people are just trying a make a profit in the "designer" industry by upcharging for a mutt. If you're going to pay a noticeable amount of $$ for a dog at least support a reputable breeder (and therefore the overall health of the breed) or make it a donation to a rescue. The thing that makes them different from a reputable purebred breeder is there is no standard to be judged against. There is no health history to check or known diseases to test for.

i think it's interesting that these "designer" breeds yield so much $
if you think about it (take a golden doodle for instance just because I know what a friend paid for one) it's pretty silly to fork over $2,000 for what is basically a mutt. sheesh. |
