Default Thunder Shirts

Do they work? Since about 3 AM this morning the 2 Bassets Maggie Mae & Daisy and Yogi the Puggle have been scared to death. The thunder and lighting with the Monsoons has been really bad. I like thunder and lighting so I know they aren't picking it up from me. Tried some liquid calming meds from vet but didn't help much. Even had all three in bed last night but they wouldn't calm down. They are constantly shaking from being so frightened. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

My Maggie Mae hasn't really taken to her thundershirt. Doesn't mean it won't work for someone else... just every time I put it on her (storms, etc.) it doesn't calm her down at all.

Good thing about it is though, the makers of thundershirts will take returns and refund money 100% and then in turn donate the thundershirt to a rescue. I don't plan on sending Maggie's back. I'll keep it for a while and keep trying with her but if it continues not to work, I'll probably donate it to one of the local rescues here.

I know it was mentioned on another thread-melatonin. I cannot remember how much to give (want to say 3 mg for 30-60 lb dogs? but don't quote me on that!) If you google it though, you can find out. I had to look it up for a coworker awhile back because her basset freaks during storms. Don't know if she has tried it yet though!

I recommended it to an owner of a lab right before the 4th of July (and I think that is the title of the thread I first read about it in) and it worked wonders for her. good luck!

I used Melatonin for Annie during the 4th of July celebration madness...didn't help one bit. But it does seem to work for some pups. (Annie was about 58lbs then and I gave her 3mgs Melatonin)

Looked at the liquid med I got from the vet. A few things in it that I never heard of. But then noticed 13 % Alcohol. Maybe just pop them a beer or two or a few bloody marys.
