Allergy? Mabel is having skin issues. Raised bumps along her back. She is on Frontline (bought thru our vet ) & we have still seen a few fleas on her. The bumps do not seem to be bothering her, and when she does itch, it is around her bum area. Though briefly. Perhps switch to K9 Advantix?
OR, switch her food? I've been noticing that she does not really seem to love it. She does not finish it and we are trying to feed her 2-3 times per day, as she is still a puppy (14 weeks).............So, think it is a food allegry or flea medication not responding to her? When we bathe her, the bumps do relax a bit, but they come back out a day later or so. You can see them when she is sitting in the grass, all along her spine area..........At a loss. Thanks!

Food allergies take time to devlop It is highly unlikely a food allergy. The number 1 allergy in dog is Flea bite keep in mind frontline and advantix are not instantanious frontline takes up to 48 hours before covers the entire body advantix is slightly faster even then there is the posibilty given when the flea go on the pet for it to survive long enough to bite

Thanks, but she has been on Frontline for the entire time we have had her, every 3 weeks. . .

Front line or Front line plus the plus version contains a growth regulatior that effect larvea and eggs as well as adut. while frontline is simply and adulticide. So if a dog has fleas that means ther is ussually and infestation beding etc ove time the lavea grown and beome adult eggs hatch etc this take time monthe to work through be fore it complete clears up with simply and adulticed and there can still be the occaional flea that still bite, None of the producte are 100% effective just high 90's at best so a occasional flea bite reaction is not an indication the product is not working and the flea if reacently attaced can live long enough to bite and create a problem but not long enough to reproduce.

Give the age of the dog another possibilty is demodic mites but the hind end itch is more and indication of fleas not mites

front line and k9 advantix work much on the same principal different ingredient an insecticide and life cycle growth regulators. There are concerns that fipronil the ingredient in frontline has been used long enough that some fleas might be developing a resistance to it. Hence the importance of a groth regulator that prevent resistant fleas from reproducing. Studies I have seen have ranked anvateix below frontline lower in both flea nad tick control but these may be company sponsored studies wich would make the results suspect. What often happen regarless of which topical is used to start just when the person ussing them is growing fustrated at then not reining in an infestion the product has han an effect and the life cycle for eggs to laveae to pupea to adult has run through and under control They swith to the other and are amzaed a the result It is not because the one switched to is better or work it is just it takes months to control an infestation with theses products alone.
