Hi, I'm looking to buy one of the following beds, later when my basset is fully grown, but obviously they come in different sizes. I had a look in a local pet shop, and they had large and extra large (which look huge). Can someone please tell me, what size I would need, for a fully grown basset. thank you
These are the sizes the beds come in:

• XX-Small: 56.5cm H x 39.5cm W x 23cm D
• X-Small: 65.5cm H x 46cm W x 25cm D
• Small: 74cm H x 51.5cm W x 26.5cm D
• Medium: 82.5cm H x 57.5cm W x 28cm D
• Large: 91cm H x 63.5cm W x 29.5cm D
• X-Large: 102cm H x 71cm W x 31.5cm D

Personally, I would go with the biggest you can afford. The large, in my opinion, would be the best bet. X-large is probably too big, medium might be a bit small. Watson has a bed similarly sized to the large one you're looking at... sometimes he lays in it, sometimes he half lays in it, sometimes he lays on the floor with only his head in the bed. But, when he lays entirely in the bed, it's the perfect size. He's comfortable curled up, he's comfortable stretched out...

I guess I would think of it like a couch. You sit on it sometimes, you lay on it sometimes, you stretch your legs out on it sometimes... so you get it big enough to allow all of that to happen comfortably.

Short answer: I'd go with the large.

Excellent, thank you. I was thinking large or extra large. As you say, I want to get it big enough for my fully grown basset to be completely comfortable in, but I don't want to get it too big, if I don't have to. Thinking about space in my lounge or bedroom, but again, I don't want it too small, that it's not large enough for my dog.

Hi nittynat, FWIW, when Toby was diagnosed with arthritis, vet told me to make his bed soft and comfortable and with enough room so that he could fully stretch out on it with his back straight and his legs positioned straight out in front.

He also added that all dogs should sleep on beds like this as it is only when they are in this position that they can enter into proper deep sleep(can't remember the word) unlike humans who can sleep in many positions.

I got him a large crate where he can stretch right out. Hope this helps

I would wait until the dog is full grown and as estabilshed a sleeping style My currant dog prefer a snuggle ball because the sleep curled up and the balls the can style and groom to ther shape and liking. Toughy see avatar. needed a bed that had a pillow area for his head and was very long some of the xtar largers were not beg enough because he wanted to strech out when he slept. so I would not rush into such a purchase because it is likely you will find you really need a different style bed .
