One of our Bassets, Buster, was rescued from an extrememely negligent neighbor in August of 1993. At the time, the vet said he appeared to be about 6 months old which makes him at least 18 YEARS OLD! He is ancient, blind, mostly deaf, but eats like a champ and tries - mostly failing ;>) - to make it outside to tinkle etc.
Our Super Happy Fun Boy must be close to setting an age record. What's the oldest Basset you've known? Our younger Basset, Bonnie, will be 13 in December. Long may they run! |

I think he might win! I was impressed by the lady on the next block with the 15 year old basset. Continue holding that record, Buster!
Molly and Winston love his name...that's their dad's name (their basset dad, not their human dad LOL). |

They guessed that Anabelle was 8 when we adopted her, but it was a total guess based on teeth, etc. I am just glad she has made it this far and she is more than welcome to stick around and let us enjoy her company for as long as she wants :P
List of oldest dogs: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_oldest_dogs 29 years old for a cattle dog! Crazy.

I will post pix of them when I get home from work. What amazes me is that Buster, short of going blind 7 years ago, has had almost zero health problems. He collapsed last September and we thought we'd lose him, but he came back. All he would eat for a while was buttered toast and scrambled eggs...that's our fallback diet when he turns up his nose at other food. Man, he loves his toast! As far as we're concerned, he can have whatever he darn well wants. Our vet wrote in Buster's file that he's a "ticking time bomb." We always get a laugh out of that.

I just posted an album titled, Buster, World's Oldest Basset & Bonnie. I wish I had more pix online, most of our are in old-school photo albums that might - someday - be scanned in. Hope you enjoy these.
