Smile New Puppy - 2nd night....

Thank you everyone for your words of wisdom and encouragement. We've made several slight adjustments and had a good night last night. I'm not sure if Atticus is getting the hang of things or if he's training us! We're starting to get on the same wave-length as we are recognizing when he needs to go outside and he's working hard not to go where ever he wants. Last night he passed out on my 4 year old's lap which instantly had my wife taking pictures. We'll have to get some posted. Thanks again everyone.

Good to hear that the 2nd night was better! That's how it was with our Boomer; it only took a few nights for him to adjust.

Just keep asking questions, there are some very knowledgeable people on this board.

And of course post pictures! We love pictures here.

Yes indeed! Pictures please! And I'm very glad the second night went better. It'll just get better and better as time goes on. Good luck!

And eventually the puppy will get so comfortable that he'll push you off the couch because he wants to go to sleep for the night. At least that's what Molly does to me.

Yes, they train us...not the other way around

UMM That second part is not very likely. Basset are natoriously difficult to housetrain. I have not seen one truely housetrained before the age of six months and a year is typical. IMHO they are slow to mature in sphincter control/ the ability to hold it. Basset boys atend to be leakers ie lines of pee past six months of age especial if excited. To aviod problems in housetraining a strict schedual and do iot give the dog more resposibility until ity is ready that is at least a month better two without an accident in a small confined space before you slowly expand the territory he has when not being strictly supervised .

I also highly recommend that rather than hope he figures out a signal to tell tyou he needs to go you train one. see House Training: Ring My Bell!
