Help!! haha!! I think my Basset is in heat the 1st time... actually the 1st time I have had a dog in heat. Her private parts are swollen, her stools are loose, she is laying around more than normal... Is this all normal?? She is like my 3rd child and is treated like one...

Is there blood spotting ? Some do keep themselves very clean but you should notice something. How old is she? Do not let her out of your sight if you really think she is in season. If she is acting lethargic that is not primarily a sign of her heat. You can take her temp to be sure there is not a fever,if you do and she has a fever get her to a vet asap. Her normal temp should be around 101 to 102 give or take a little. If it is her heat you have about 3-4 weeks of keeping her under your feet so no male dog gets a hold of her.
