Default she's not a basset...but she'll do.

while I was looking for a basset hound my husband's friend at work told him he has a 7 month old miniature schnauzer he wants to rehome. So we're taking her in in 2 weeks. I'm pretty nervous because this'll be 2 dogs to work on housebreaking with but we've met with her and she is sweet with us and Fred so I think she'll fit in good here.

I mean realistically all I need is some extra food and more carpet cleaner right, lol.

Congrats on your new addition! Does she have a name? Annie and I look forward to seeing pictures of what is sure to be a budding friendship!

My carpet cleaner told me to use 50/50 white vinegar and water instead of commercial carpet cleaning solutions. Works pretty well so far. Heck of a lot cheaper too ($3/gallon for vinegar instead of the $15/quart or so of the cleaner).

no she doesn't have a name, yet. They claim her name is Sugar but she doesn't respond to it. No pics yet either but hopefully tons when she gets home. We are thinking about Meg as her name(mainly because i'm a huge Family Guy fan and love Meg).

I'll have to try that, because I pay almost $10 gallon for the stuff I use. Fred hasn't peed inside for awhile but I still don't trust she wouldn't lol and i'm sure this dog will have some accidents since she is far from housebroken and i'm sure it'll only be a matter of time before Fred wants to give the whole peeing inside thing a try again...

We wanted to wait until Fred was housebroken but this girl needed a home and I couldn't turn her away so might as well get all the housebreaking over with at once.

Yay for new puppy! My in-laws have a miniature schaunzer and she's sweet when she's not growling at my dogs. I'd never heard the vinegar trick either! I might give that a try when we use up the last of the commercial cleaner we have. Congrats on your new addition!

His instructions were to mix the water and vinegar and completely saturate the dog stain, and then soak it up with an old towel. I actually just put it straight in my Bissell Spot Bot, though Bissell doesn't recommend it, and run the spot bot on the stain then use the hose or a paper towel to get any wetness left over.

If your other dog or dogs are already housetrained that makes it easier. Your other dogs shouldn't go back to their old ways, but the new dog should pick up on it faster by copying them.

I love my spot bot, lol! i'll have to remember this.

However I know it's a far cry from housebroken but Fred rang her bell twice to go outside and potty without prompting I was just sitting on the couch and she got up and nudged her bells!

The new girl lives in a kennel situation but everythings kept cleaned and she is crated at night inside. The people were going to breed her but decided not to.
