Default do bassets only prefer the company of other bassets?

Does anyone have nonbasset friends(other dogs) for their bassets? Fred doesn't seem to into playing with other dogs, particularly larger ones. Yesterday was the first time she ever played with another dog at the dog park (a sheperd mix).

sometime in the future we may want to add another dog and while another basset would be nice I also looked into great danes.

Our bassets through the years have always behaved differently if they have come across Bassets, like they know they're the same breed, but they're OK with most dogs they meet, but I'm sure Bassets are their favourites, although where we live, there are very few Bassets!

Lucy's best friend was Bogart the Boxer, then there was ZeeZee the American Bull Dog ( a female friend she tolerated) and also, Neno the Yorkie.

Woofus goes to doggie park almost everyday. He prefers big dogs. The bigger the better for him. He likes great danes, or 120lb dogs I think all dogs are different.

Annie's best bud is our Jack Russell Terrier, but only because they live together. She loves the big dogs, especially running with them...until she steps on her ears LOL.

One set of our friends has a beagle and another has two purebred mutts. Doppler LOVES these dogs! They have a freakin' blast when they get together. Virga I think is a little scared of them because they move too fast for her to keep up. And she's the smallest out of them. But they love other dogs and don't care about breed. Mine will play with my parent's shepard/husky mix just as well as with my grandparent's two shih tzus.

We had a toy Poodle Sandra when we got Maggie. Maggie was about 10 weeks. After we had to put down Sandra we got a Puggle named Yogi and he's been her friend for the last 1 1/2 years. They get along great but Maggie isn't into playing much. Now we are foster failures and adopted Daisy a year old Basset. She and Yogi get along great and play all the time.

Lol at foster failures! That's why I'm scared to foster in case we might end up keeping them all.

Molly loves every dog she meets, large or small. She met a basset one day on a walk and was not any more impressed with him than she is with any other breed. Her best friend is my mom's teacup Poodle. She loves to run and play with him when she goes for a visit. They're having a sleepover next month when I am away. My poor mother.

Mattie's best friend is a Puggle (pug/beagle mix) they play all day long with the puggle is here. They run and chase each other. The Puggle brings the puppy out in Mattie once again.
