Anti-pull Harness

I had been debating and reading and reading and debating about whether to get Annie some sort of anti-pull device since we have been doing more walking and she pulls like an ox. So today I broke down and bought a Sporn Anti-pull Mesh Harness. NO joke...it is like walking a different dog! I am amazed. We can't take a long walk because it's raining but we tried a quick walk to test the fit. I am amazed and can not wait to take a longer walk! yay!

Where did you get it, and how is it different from other harnesses?

I got it from a store here called Centinela Feed and Pet Supply. I think they only have stores here in So Cal, but this harness (Sporn Anti-pull Mesh Harness) is probably also at places like PetCo and PetSmart.

The harness has straps that go underneath her arm pits and I think that is the part that tightens if she tries to pull. It comes with "sherpa" pads for the parts that go under the pits and from what I've read on this forum and other websites, most people end up removing the pads as they tend to slip during a walk. The "mesh" part of the thing is the part that goes across the front of her chest, it is elastic so not completely binding. She is able to move well. This harness definitely keeps her from pulling but isn't appropriate for trying to get her moving when she is behind me sniffing around. And thankfully she hasn't gone "flat basset" during a walk for a few years cuz this harness probably wouldn't help with that either. Time and sunny weather will show if this truly will keep her from pulling when she sees other dogs, but for today it kept her from pulling me into the swamp that used to be our park.

I still need to adjust the fit, but we did manage a longer walk...in the rain lol. She is definitely confused about this new contraption but I found that we actually were able to walk alot faster. I think the combination of her pulling me forward and me pulling her back during our walks before actually slowed us down. I use an application on my cell phone that tracks us via GPS and shows our mileage and speed, so that's how I know we walked faster today.

If that doesn't end up working out, I would try the Horgan Harness! It's amazing!!! My basset hound used to pull me around the block all the time and now I don't have any problems at all! We love our Sporn's! They make a big difference in how hard ours can pull. They still take the leash out to it's furthest reaches but they aren't able to drag us down the street anymore

They run 10-20 bucks apiece on Amazon. I believe we got the extra larges for our bassets who range from 50-65 lbs. The more constraining measurement is the neck size. Pics show our little models sporting their harnesses. The only other issue is they can become a little loose on Layla because her chest and shoulders are so broad that when you tighten the straps and she starts to move around her girth forces it open, but this is only when they are running around without a leash attached to the harness. So as long as you keep walking there's no chance it will get loose.

Good to know that these things actually do make a difference. It may be a useful thing for me to try with Ninja. Her pulling has made a real mess out of my shoulder.

I was owndering about harnesses as the breeder told me that it would throw out the shoulders. Anyone had problems with it?

Great if it works as i have one arm longer than the other now

how? the risk from a collar is far greater even a flat buckle one.

I have the same harness, although hector does not pull I find it's the only one I can get to fit him properly and not rub his elbows.
