I adopted Marley in Dec. 16. He was diagnosed with hook worms at the shelter so he was given meds to eliminate them. For the first few days he was hesitant to eat and had very soft stool. So maybe I thought it was due to the worms and that he had to adjust to his new food and possibly a little nervous.
It has been a little over 2 weeks since I've had him and his stool is still very soft and today it was almost completely pasty. (Sorry for the graphic description). There had been times where it has been close to normal though. After 5 days I called the vet and was told to feed him white rice, boiled chicken, and cottage cheese. I've been doing so and no luck. So tomorrow at 11 we will be at the vet getting Marley Stumps checked out.. Hopefully is nothing serious. |

Thank you all. Everything went well with Marley today, he is worm free. The doctor prescribed Hills prescription diet (i/d Gastrointestinal health). He said the food should fix his stomach up. Everything else looks good and Marley is one healthy Basset!

I'm so glad Marley is doing OK. He's one lucky Basset to have been adopted by you. I'm sure he'll do great and can't wait to here updates on how things are going.

We had the loose stool problem with Nitro too. Our vet said to try different foods. They also suggested giving him some plain yogurt, about a teaspoon mixed in with his food. The the most part he is fine now, but as a typical basset, he seems to find the most peculiar things to eat, and then he has loose stools again for a day or two.
