Default How cute do these Bassoodles look?

Sooo cute!!! Bassets crossed with Poodles! Why so expensive? £950 each... that's £100 more than my Bassets!

Expensive? Because it is a new "Designer Breed".

I like it better than a Labradoodle!

I saw a 1/2 basset 1/2 english bulldog at the doggie park the other day. Awesome looking. Basset body with bulldog face

I posted a picture of the Great Pyranese/Basset mix I know in this thread: Two types of bassets?

I've never quite understood the idea of "designer" breeds. They're just fancy mutts.

Yeah I feel the same way Kirska... just a fancy name for a mutt and there are plenty of those at any shelter. No point in making more on purpose. I'll stick with my purebreds or rescue before I buy a "designer" breed.

I don't even think they're cute, and I see plenty of mutts that look just like that who come in for grooming.

But yep, due to the gullibility of the general public you can charge way more for a "bassoodle" than for a plain ol' basset/poodle mix.

As far as I'm concerned "designer dogs" are the second biggest dog scam out there.

As my friend just said... a few years ago these dogs would have been called 'mongrels'
so why are people charging so much for 'cross-bred' dogs???

I should note, though, that I do love mutts. Part of their appeal for me though is their individuality and "underdog" sort of feel.

In regards to designer breeds, I remember one time I was in line at the Petsmart checkout with my mutt behind a lady with a puppy and when the cashier asked what breed the dog was she said, "It's a designer breed" with a very snooty attitude. I couldn't help but laugh to myself that she probably spent hundreds or thousands on a mutt when I spent $0 on mine.

I agree with Soundtrack that it's the biggest scam out there.
