Some of us have certain doubts about the bassets ability to fly,
but now it's been confirmed once for all. "Basse" - nice name for a basset - flew out from 5th floor and landed unhurt below. The owners found him shaking in a bush below, 2 hours later. The vet couldn't find any damage, and concluded with "he must have flown!" ![]() Steinar, Emma and Doris |

Awww so cute!!!
How amazing to find no injuries after such a fall from that height! I'd have been afraid to go and look! Thank goodness he landed in a bush and not on concrete! ![]() I don't know how you are able to pick up your Basset in your arms like that... mine are far too big and heavy and too awkward a shape and I'd be afraid I'd injure them by picking them up! PS: Do other Basset owners pick up their dogs or are they like mine, too chunky and heavy to pick up. Even my vet won't pick them up and instead she lowers her table for them (electronically) to climb on and then raises it up as she said you have to be very careful with picking them up with such long bodies and especially when they are over 60/70lbs! I was watching a show about people who wear what look like skydiving suits with "webs" of fabric between their arms and bodies and between their legs, and they jump off cliffs and fly around for a while before launching their parachute and landing. If you think about it, a basset's body is kind of like that flying suit. So it makes sense that a basset could fly! It worked for Dumbo.

Our vet doesn't pick her up either. They just get down on the floor with her. Our other dog is able to jump from the human seat to the vet table but he is much more agile than her. Normally when I do pick up a dog I pick them up around their chest, but with her, we have to carry her like a newborn baby with one arm in front and one in back because she's so long.
