Why are you not returning her to the rescue? That is normally required in the adoption contract.

That is because you are misinterpreting the use of "rescue" it does not mean that was the original source of the dog. i.e when was the last time a dog in a rescue org had "akc papers" as rare a snow in july in Florida.

We have one basset rescue group in Louisiana but they are closing ; so we try to rehome some unwanted bassets from our local area. This dog's owner just did not want her anymore and said she did not have time for her. We took her in because the next stop was the animal shelter. I will post pics later today.

Awww the poor girl... I can't begin to imagine why a Basset owner would 'not want their pet anymore'...
I hope you find some caring person to look after her!

To some the AKC papers mean "BREEDABLE". I'm not sure I would make those available.

Unless she is already spayed. If not, it would be best to spay prior to adoption and charge a fee for her to help cover the expense.

Agreed. There is no reason a rescue should ever be unspayed.

You should always charge a fee for an adoption, unless you're giving the dog to a family member or someone you know personally. People who train fighting dogs routinely pick up "free to good home" dogs and use them as training bait. An adoption fee keeps them away for the most part. They disguise themselves as well-meaning families. And no, I'm not just making this up. I have seen the dogs that manage to make it out of that situation alive and it's truly horrendous.

Thanks for the advice I have a very nieve way about animals, thinking people would take care of them the way I do. I would like to think I check out everyone before letting a dog go to them, but I never thought about the fighting thing. I did think of the breeding thing though. Thanks again I appriciate the advise.
