Any reason why a basset will vomit yellow frothy puke every morning?
a friend of mine asked me the other day. She told me hers vomit every morning and has been so for two days in a row. Let me know. I don't want to give a wrong advice.

There was a very recent thread about this that you might look for. Some dogs get upset stomachs and vomit when their stomachs are empty. Does your friend feed his or her dog twice a day or just once? She might consider giving the last meal later in the evening. Or feeding breakfast earlier.

We have given Rosco a little bit of food before bed and it helps cut down on this. He does it all the time though and it doesn't appear to slow him down any. Of course giving puppies food before bed might mean getting up in the middle of the night more (if your friend's dog is a pup).

Flash will vomit if his belly is empty. Try giving the dog a few biscuits or treats before bed and hopefully this will stop. I feed Flash once a day at 5pm and he gets a snack before bed and a snack in the morning. He hasn't vomitted in quite awhile now.

My lab has to eat every 12 hours or he will do this, and I have noticed with my puppy if she get's sleepy and doesn't eat later at night she will be sick in the am like that so if she hasn't eaten I throw her some cookies in her crate with her, and a couple ice cubes. She always gobbles them down and hasn't been sick since I started doing that.

I believe her dog is about 9 months old. a month older than mine. she feed him twice a day. 10 am and 6 pm. 4 cups a day.
Should I recommend her to feed the dog three times while maintaining the portion to be 4 cups a day?

Although I have not experienced this from my basset, is this considered a common thing?

Could the summer heat has any effect to this? she said that the vomiting start 2 days ago. I thought it is interesting that the incident coincides with the recent summer heat in California (the day temp in CA is 110 F. I am sure she kept her house cool with AC, but, her dog loves playing around in the backyard).

it is not breed related is in a individual dog thing while not common it is certainly not rare either.

Before changing the feeding schedual given the age of the puppy I would have the owner answer thes basic quest.

Is the dog housetrained? how often is the dog deficating 1,2,3 time a day?
changing a schedual can upset the houstraining routine and klead to set backs. For a routine it is best to match then number of defications with the feedins but never less than 2. So if the dog is deficating 3 times a day by all means change. From 10 am to 6 pm 16 hours just moving to a more balance 12 hour seperation may be enough. Also a couple of cookies at bedtime ususal solves the problem as well you juest have to account for the extra calories at meal time.

yes, he is housetrained. I am not sure how many times her dog defecates, I will ask her.
I will tell her to balance her dog's feeding time between breakfast and dinner into 12 hours separation instead of 16 hours.

If the dog is truely housetrained and not simply well managed to prevent accidents then changing the frequency of feeding is not going to be detrimental So it more of an option regardless of the schedule of the dogs bodily function in a dog that is housetrained.

The reason for pointing this out is simple whenever a change is made in a routine there will be consequences. Many if not most unintended, if one understand what atleast some of those consequence can be they have a better chance to mitigate or eliminate them.

Our Tally started doing this very thing this past spring. She had recently lost a lot of weight, the result of her playing with our younger newest addition. We had always fed Moe and Tally one meal in the evening. Our vet thinks that Tally's new more active life-style called for more energy during the day. She suggested giving her two meals a day, instead of her usual one. She gets the same amount of food daily, but broken into two meals; two thirds in the morning and one third in the evening. Worked like a charm. Moe still got his whole meal at night but recently he began to want whatever the little guys got so they are all on the same schedule.
