Im confused. I try and try and try to train her. But she is so resistant.
I got her to sit...Consistently. So thats a plus. But everytime I walk her...my shoulder blade seems to be pulled out of place..Not literately. I tried a choke and treating when she kept with me. I treated often and was weaning out to less....Id treat her often to keep her interested. I know its like her hearing disappears when she smells something. There are two bushes that I have to literately drag her past. These bushes can't be passed by walking a different way. But My problem is that we learnt that in our city, dogs are not aloud to bark....Yes you heard me...Dogs are Not allowed to BARK. we've learnt this from several visits from the police. So we purchased a Collar with the vibrate..She doesnt care. It doesnt bother her....She's so food driven that she wont do anything without food. But If I say sit and make her wait a 3 count, She'll bark at me...I think telling me off. She doesnt stop barking...She obviously doesnt see a point in listening. She picky so the bones we buy are 2 bucks each...As I type the bone is sitting next to her and shes chewing up my lint roller. ... ... I dont know what im to do...Sorry for the rant.

Well I can tell you from personal experience that the walking issue is a tough one. The choke collar never worked for me. We bought a Sporn no-pull harness. That helped a little, at least in the sense that it makes it easier to control them and doesn't let them get as much momentum when they decide to run. The barking sounds like a challenge. You must live in a really strict town. Police visting for a barking dog sounds pretty extreme. There are a couple of other members here who will have a lot more resources and suggestions so don't give up. Good luck!

Oh and... our girl is a Layla also, and she is stubborn as heck and will woof at me if I'm not pouring her food in a timeframe that works for her.

The thing is you can't cut off the part that gets a basset in trouble,the nose. Selective hearing is par for the course. You didn't say how old she is. How much time do you spend with her? I mean just sitting with her petting ,playing with her ears,just one on one time. I find the more time I spend just being calm and sitting talking to my dogs ,messing with the ears ,rubbing the belly, builds a relationship. You do need to exercise her to wear her out so she doesn't have too much energy,which it seems like you are trying to do.You may be rewarding too much and she is coming to expect it rather than earn it. This may sound a bit harsh to some of those out there but if I have a dog that wants to bark without reason I have a cloth muzzle which I put on and it doesn't take them to long to learn,quiet,no muzzle,barking muzzle. They can still make some noise but it is muffled. I hope it helped you to talk about it because she will sense your frustration and act up even more. I didn't address everything but maybe you will be able to use somethings to make it easier for you.

We tried every remedy under the sun to stop our dog from barking including the citronella collar, shock collar, leaving the tv or radio on... nothing seemed to work but getting another dog. Her problem was she had separation anxiety so having the other dog around calmed her enough to stop barking when we left them alone. Good luck it's not an easy thing and it's something people should really consider before getting any dog. Some dogs bark and hounds in general seem to be extra barkers. As for the walking... I'd try a prong collar... it's the only thing that worked for our boy who did serious damage to my shoulder on two occasions. I couldn't handle trying to pop him to give him the correction and he would drag me... now I'm a BIG woman and this dog who weighs 51 pounds soaking wet hurt my shoulder and nearly pulled it out of the socket. Prong collars aren't cruel when used or fitted properly. I'd give that a try but sometimes you do need to give them a few seconds to sniff... they are after all a scent hound and it is what comes natural. When we take our dogs for a walk there are a couple of spots that they get to sniff as they are irresistible... I give them a 3-5 second count to sniff then we are on our way again.

I agree With about everything that was said. I took into consideration her barking. And When the police told me she wasn't allowed to bark I was so frustrated, I asked them what they wanted her to do? Meow?? Shes a dog..A HOUND dog...at least shes not howling at the moon right? The barking Doesn't bother me in the least...It bothers this dang town. Even though there is a dog a street over that is worse than her. So why not tell them off?
I give Layla freedom, Smells are interesting, But these particular bushes, Are 10 minute counters...and then we have to drag her away. Both out and back in.
Right now She is in a np-pull comfort Harness. It doesn't make her pull less, Just helps me hold her back easier. She runs in circles around me. Heeling is ineffective. Im working with her a lot on the walking.

About the one on one time.....Layla thinks shes a lap-dog. She is always in someones lap. We love her ears and she loves us rubbing them. She also loves her belly rubbed. Very stingy at bedtime. Wiggling when I stop rubbing her belly because I fall asleep. She gets a lot of attention but when she is outside alone, she has trouble. So I think maybe the separation anxiety might be a issue. Ive also tried those calming things. Didn't work....Ill talk to my husband about another one. HAHA I want a blonde female...Would it be better with two?

Oh yea she just turned 1yr, 2 months ago.

when we leave I would never leave her outside. We let her out throughout the day, several times a day. and we walk 2 sometimes 3 times a day.
we crate her when we leave, when we eat and when babies visit.
