Well, Gracie did great at the vet today. They put her on a Hypo-Allergenic food to see if thats whats causing her allergies. Also, put her on some Antibiotic, Antihistamine/steroid, and some fish oil gel caps. Hopefully the combination will help. They gave her a shot steriod in the office to help and she has not been itching as much so im happy. Im really glad the vet couldnt help. Thanks again for everyones advice. :0)

Only problem is you won't know which actual helped but somes times, ok,most of the time relief is more impportant than knowing the cause or the actual agent that created relief, but unless a food challenge i.e. if the dog gets better putting her back on the orginal food to see if symptoms return one will not know for sure if food allergy is the cause or seasonal allergies the ended during the feeding trial. It it one reason food allergies are over stated. That is each spring the dog becomes allergiic to a new protein. Well in reality food was never the problem and seasonal allergies were.


skin and or blood testing for Atopic (inhalent and contact) allergens is generally effective however the same tests are not effective for food alergies even though several companies market them as such. The only way to determine food allergy is the procedure you are following with Hypoallergenic food for upto 12 weeks to see if the dog gets better if not food allergies is general ruled out if it does then the dog must be give the original food again to see if it becomes afected if not then the likely cause is still a atopic seasonal allergy if it does then a food allergy is the likely culprit. The problem also is dogs with food allergies also tend to have atopy as well. That is they are allergic to multiple items. food plus enviromental irritants like dust, pollen, mold etc.
