Hi Everyone,
I am new here and I am hoping that I can find a few answers for my hounds. I have 2 hounds- Benson will be 9 in March and Daisy just turned 7 on Christmas day. I have a few questions, but so I can keep my posts in order, my first question is about Benson. I took both hounds for their annual shots about 3 weeks ago and since then, I have noticed that Benson has been shaking. (To be fair- I am correlating the shaking with the date of the shots, but the shaking may have started a few days prior.. I am just not 100% certain) He doesnt seem to be in any pain when he moves, although he seems to be moving a bit slower. When I sit next to him to comfort him, I can almost hear a slight whimper when he exhales. He does not shake when he is sleeping. He is eating/drinking normal and there have not been any bowel changes. He is alert and he still plays and jumps down from the couch to greet everyone at the door etc. He had a quarter sized fat deposit... on his chest area that ruptured and this has been trying to scab and heal for about a year.. it will ooze and then I clean it up and then it tries to heal and then oozes again. It smells terrible and I dont know if it could be infection, but the vet has seen it several times and says not to worry about it... but I dont know what to do about the smell. Could the shaking be from an infection in this wound?? Any help on both of these issues would be awesome. Thanks

I would definitely take him to another vet. That is not a good sign that he has a cyst that won't heal for that length of time. I would also be concerned about the trembling as well.
My Yogi has a lot of sebaceous cysts and I have had several of them removed. Most recently a golf ball size one from the side of his neck. That one kept going up and down so I did ask the vet to remove it for the very reason you described, a rupture waiting to happen. I hope you can get some answers for your boy and post some pictures for us. We love seeing hound pictures!

I'm a surgical nurse and anytime you have smelly discharge coming from a wound we just treat it as an infection. I think your dog could be sick and I think you need to find a new vet. Smelly wounds, whether from a dog or a human are never "okay". Maybe the trembling is a sign of fever.
