Well, we seem to have Rufus all healed up and most everything seems back to normal for him. Whew!!!!

He is an aggressive chewer and can wear the down the knuckles on one of the super hard nylabones in a couple of hours flat if he wants to. Usually I can get a week out of one.

Since his little rock eating episode we've managed to pull a handfull of things out of his mouth that he just seems to find. You know, dryer sheets when the kids are unloading the dryer and don't gate him off--and socks too for that matter, and the usual twig outside (he hasn't been outside except on a leash, but even then he's a quick devil).

So I was thinking that maybe the bully sticks might be the ticket. But at $14 for two 12" ones here in town I hope they last a bit.

We also have a farm place that carries them in the 9" size for considerable cheaper, but I don't know who makes them or anything, so am a bit leary.
local bully stix

How often and for how long do you let your dogs chew on them, do they stain the carpet (we have light colored carpet), and is the 12" probably the best?

if he is an aggresive chewer they will not last long. Even my sell agressive chewer can finish them off fairly quickily, but the do last longer than rawhide. they are certainly not as durable as the same size nylabone. If the traditional large lylabone is only holding up for a week long it to the Galileo bone by them the unique design makes it invredibly durable. Be sure to size it proberly as well. a small increase in sizw can have an amacing effect on strength. Size chart I would start with the "souper" size.

For Natural Chews cow hooves last the best for me, but the can smell bad and one has to be careful because the can break of sharp shards and pieces that are large enough that they are not likely to be digestable.

I've looked at the Galileo bones before, but I'm not sure they would hold up much longer. He's chewing the durable large nylabones (same stuff the Galileo is made of) up fairly quick. That will have to be our next purchase. I hope they last longer than the durabones do, the Galileo's are fairly expensive for the big ones.

Rusty also had an obstruction surgery for swallowing a rock. He sucks the life out of every chew, including Bully Sticks and then tries to swallow them whole! I've taken several chews out of his mouth. I had finally gotten to the point where the only thing he is allowed to chew on is Nylabones. He isn't crazy about them so they last awhile with him. I feel bad sometimes that I don't allow him to chew but I don't want another surgery. Red Barn is a good company to buy Bully Sticks from. I agree with the warning with sharp edges of a cows hoof and at the clinic I work at we've done a few surgeries for pigs ears causing an obstruction. It is so hard to satisf their need for chewing and keeping them out of the Vet's office Good Luck! Let us know what you decide on.

The advantage of the galileo is not the material it is the design. there is not the smallis nob like on the end of a nylabone to knock off. It is much hard to get pieces knocked of, not impossible but harder. FWIW most of the strong chewers I known part of the joy of chewing is the distruction. Items they can't destroy get ignored. That would be my bigger concern with a galileo , a chew toy the dog won't chew is not worth very much.

I have given Rosco a 14" bully stick and had it disappear within hours before. The ones we get from Petco and Meijer's also smell pretty bad. He loves them.
