Hello all! I am new to the boards here. My hubby and I are parents to 2 fuzzy kids, Mick our basset will be 2 yrs old in June, and Molly our 3 yr. old beagle. Becoming owners of a basset (actually of both dogs) was sort of a surprise to me. My husband was never keen on having animals in the house (he was raised on a farm and believed all animals should be outside). I on the other hand had been raised with always having a dog in the house. I developed some medical problems and had to medically retire from my career about 4 yrs. ago. Having been used to being extremely active with my work, being confined to the house just about did me in. My daughters (both married) went to my husband and proposed the idea of a puppy to help raise my spirits. Therefore, Molly came along. In a matter of weeks, my husband (I thought later of asking "Ok, who are you and what have you done with my husband?") became EXTREMELY attached to our little girl as she did him..In fact, rather than becoming MY dog, she became HIS dog by showing a definite preference for his affections LOL. Less than a year after getting her, he bridged the question of what did I think about getting her a companion since I was unable to give her as much exercise as she really needed. Searching the papers, we (Yes, I know from reading the forums now we probably went about obtaining our two not in the manner most think is proper) were unable to find any beagles for sale. He did find an ad for basset puppies and thought perhaps that might even be better suited on the hope that the activity level might be a little lower than Mollys while size should be generally comparable.

BINGO! The man of my life (next to hubby of course) came to join us. He is the most adorable, sweet natured drama queen on the planet. The 2 breeds mesh incredibly well. Molly thinks she is his mother sometimes I am positive. He has SO much personality with a huge vocal range and uses his voice so well you always know what he wants by his different tones..from bay to bark to howl to what my husband calls his "squeak" that he uses when in ultimate beg mode.

I didnt mean for this to turn into a novel, but I have so enjoyed reading the forums since I found it and seeing all the pics and videos! I am not real computer saavy, but I hope to figure out how to get a pic posted of our guys soon. He actually is a twin for Dozer-Diggers one guy (the one that is colored more like a bloodhound than the other two in the video). You all have the cutest dogs ...well next to mine that is haha. Though I must admit seeing the little puppy pics does make me miss the early days.

I do want to thank you all for some of the great information on this site tho. I have really enjoyed it.

Welcome, can't wait to see some pics! If you go to the "search" function on the upper left corner next to "help" you can search for posting pictures and find some directions.

We live near the Ohio River on the Ohio side. So technically yankee, but close enough to the home of the Colonel we get accused of being Southern by our accents from our friends in New York haha!

Welcome! Glad to hear you have such wonderful dogs who have made a difference in your life. I know I would be lost without my Yogi, as well as Gunny, our GSD.

I am looking forward to seeing pictures of your hounds. As far as posting a picture goes, all you need to do is upload your photos to Photobucket and then copy the IMG code right into your post.

HI! I'm also new here. Everyone on this forum is so nice. You'll be so glad you joined.
I'm a new Basset Hound owner and I didn't know anyone else who owns one so I felt isolated until I found all the nice Basset owners on this forum.
