If I recall correctly, we have a few members who cook for their hounds. I'm looking to try a new diet with Noonie to see if it'll help with his ear infections.

I used to make homemade food for Biscuit because his anal glands were out of control. I relied heavily on lentils, carrots and chicken, and honestly don't remember too much except that I began doing this shortly before or around the time I adopted Yogi, so Yogi pretty much grew up on homemade.

I also used to make doggie treats in the breadmaker, but I don't remember much about that either. Sorry! My brain is full and I just can't quite remember everything I used to do!

I do remember the pups thrived on homemade. I'm seriously considering going back to it because I moved and no longer have easy access to the commercial food the pups also thrived on (Black Gold). Imo, Iams, etc. etc. really suck, and Yogi's getting old enough that I'm unwilling to risk his health just because I can't make regular 45 mile round trips to get good food.

I just haven't started making their food again yet because - well, because I'm kind of disorganized.

I use Dr. Harvey's Canine Health. It's great my little basset loves it. Check it out at Drharveys.com.

We feed homemade food to our two. I use "Dr. Pitcairn's New Complete Guide to Natural Health for Dogs and Cats" (it has diets for cats & dogs). Luther & Sammy do extremely well on this diet although I have reintroduced a small amount of dry (Wysong Maintenance) because they need the crunch. Luther still has ear problems occasionally in the fall & winter but its wet here so that is no surprise! The rest of their allergies are well under control and they also maintain a vey healthy weight. Plus they love it.

I've found the Dog Aware site to be pretty useful.

Thanks for that link. It seems to have quite a bit of info on cancer diets and lymphoma, which are unfortunately of interest to us now.
