Harvey turned eight months yesterday. He weighs 47 pounds but seems much heavier. He is the friendliest basset I've ever had. He hasn't a mean word for anybody or any dog. He'll share his bed, toys, chewies and food even with strangers. At first he seemed to have a sparse, coarse coat and was itchier than normal. I've been giving him fish oil pills regularly and now he has a dense, lustrous coat and is not itchy at all. We start obedience training soon and after that hopefully rabbits. He has some long legs and is a real speed merchant. Everybody should be so lucky.

Check out the ground clearance

It doesn't seem very long, and they're all grown up. My little one just turned 4 months last week, and he's almost tripled in size.

Looks like Harvey enjoyed the company. Any thoughts on adding Gus as a brother? I don't think either of my 3 could do without their "brothers".

what an adorable and friendly guy!! He does have long legs - wow! Louie is only 14 months but everyday people tell us how agile he is for an old basset...lol.. I guess it's the silver/grey tone to his fur....lol

What a great looking hound! How often do you give the fish oil pill? My girl Lily is quite itchy. We tried giving her a food without corn, fillers, etc and it didn't make a difference. My next step is a doggie dermatologist, but if there's anything I can do for her I'd like to.

He sure is one handsome boy! Gus is also really handsome. Are you going to adopt him? He looks like a sweet boy too!

I give him one 1,000 mg. pill a day. A two-month supply costs about $10. It's called AllerG-3 and it has vitamins A, D, and E and a bunch of Omega-3. Maybe it just was Harvey growing up and maybe the food here is better than his puppy chow (although the sample I brought home seemed to have all the right stuff) but I'm keeping him on the pills. In fact, I'm so impressed I'm taking them now too (human version of course).

Harvey really likes Gus. Harvey was frustrated that Henry wouldn't play with him. Gus is a nice dog but like most pound pups he's pretty nosey, likes to counter surf, jump on the couch, and crap and pee wherever, so I think we'll keep him to the weekends for the time being. Harvey seemed a bit depressed when I returned Gus to the shelter today. I'm not set up here to foster bassets, I don't have a fenced yard, and Gus is pretty intrepid and I don't want him to lead Harvey off the premises. Neither of my dogs will stray more than 50 yards from the house (let's hope it stays that way).

Thank you for the info on the pills. I will look into that!
