Are bananas OK for dogs? Specifically the peel. I have a banana & a bottle of water on my ride home from work. Maggie goes crazy for a bite of the banana peel. She jumps so hard we're afraid she will hurt her back! Deb says the peel can't be good for her.

I'm no expert, but I put your question into google and everything that came up on the first page said that bananas are safe for dogs. One page even said that if you choose to give fruit to your dogs that apples and bananas are the way to go. It said not to give them a human amount, but a percentage is fine. Perhaps others will have some experience in this area?? My dogs do not like bananas, I've tried.

Spencer eats all kinds of fruits & veggies. He loves bananas, but I've never given him the peel. As for apples, the flesh is ok, but apple seeds, stems & leaves will make them sick.

only if fed in large amount. say the amount of seed in a core is not going to make a dog sick. The amount of "arsenic" and cyanide is minute.

I venture to say the problem was not cyanide posioning because again the seeds are virtually indigestable but rather too many apples which is a whole nother kettle of fish

It was probably more a question of what type of apples, there are bad types. Either way, I always just give small amounts of any new food I am introducing to the dogs and see how they react.

Both Luke and Dixie love bananas, though I never though to give them the peel. They also like plums. They probably would eat more types of fruit than that but we just eat those and grapes, and we know grapes are ad for them.
