I just bought a harness from Walmart for my basset hound. I have never bought a harness in my life so I wasnt sure what to look for so I just chose what looked best in my eyes... This is the exact harness I bought http://www.yuppiepuppy.com/cgi-bin/commerc...mp;key=YPUS1008

It looks to fit him pretty well but I still just wanted to get your oipinions on it. It was only $10 so if you think its not suitable for a basset, please feel free to speak up.

And also, whats a snood?

It looks fine to me, but I'd like to know if it works. I just use a standard harness, and my two pull pretty hard at times. I switched from a collar to a harness, because Dozer would pull so hard that he'd choke himself with a collar. He once broke a 100 pound rated leash when he saw a rabbit.

A snood is a festive little "hat/ear management garment" for bassets. Seems to me that a lot of the basset organizations have selections of snoods you can buy for different events. They are really cute, but I can't see my boys keeping them on at all. Also they are used to keep ears clean before going in the show ring.

I have used this exact same harness on my mastiff (170 lbs)...I think it is a very comfortable harness to use, and it did stop his pulling.

I use that harness, also known as a Sporn harness, on Stanley and I think it's pretty effective. He's a basset so he's still stubborn at times on walks, but it's much more effective than a regular harness, which I believe causes him to pull even more than just a collar/lead combo.

I like the sporn as an alternative to the prong collar because it seems to give you more control, almost like pulling the reins on a horse.

I have bought Fred 2 harnesses and he chewed BOTH of them off his body, and I soaked it with the bitter spray.

I have to use a collar and whenever he tries to pull, I just tug it a little and he stops.

Lukes

We use harnesses of very similar design, they work very well for us. They are also very easy to get on and off. We also have had problems with Luke chewing on his leader if we sit still to long, but a couple of stern warnings and being left behind a few times when we walk has taught him to stop chewing. Having more than 1 basset has its advantages, when the one misbehaving is left out of some activities they tend to learn more quickly, at least with our 2 it does. The only other problem we have is if we are not paying attention the leader gets wrapped around one of them when I am trying to walk both at the same time; it is tricky keeping the proper tension on both leashes at once.
