The picture of weathergirl Ruby got me thinking. We had German Shepherds for years til we got Maggie last fall. The Shepherds were all terrified of thunder & lightning. Some needed sedatives. The storms don't bother Maggie at all. What about your hounds?

Thunderstorms never used to bother Yogi at all but last summer that changed. He gets very scared now. Nothing happened that didn't happen before, just all the sudden out of the blue which I understand is quite typical. He gets major stressed out! So now I do medicate him which I didn't want to do but I don't think it is good for him to be at that level of stress. My last basset did not care at all about storms. We have a German Shepherd that is 2 1/2 years old and so far the thunderstorms don't bother him but I do expect them to in the future. Our last German Shepherd was scared during storms. Seems to come on later in life for some reason.

Oh my! A bomb could go off under the couch and Francis would just stretch, yawn and then roll over. Storms do not bother that dog. The only things that get Francis excited are doorbells and door knocks and me picking up the car keys. Mr. Cool Fran is the most blasé dog I've ever met.

My dogs are back and forth. Sometimes they shake and whine, other times they don't seem to care. There was one time we were out somewhere during a storm and came home to my 2 greeting us at the door with the kitchen gate knocked down!

My Maggie Mae (AT
was never afraid until she got very old. Bad timing, we moved here to Florida at that time where we live in the lightning capital of the world! She was really scared during those times. We felt so bad for her. My German Shepherd was not afraid just not very bright

Howdy folks, I haven't been here in a long time, figured I'd pop in.
Dudley is terrified of thunderstorms and fireworks. Minnie is not too bad, she just gets somewhat nervous because Dudders is such a wreck! He has found a semi-solution, he goes and hides in our bedroom closet, but only if one of the twoleggers is in the bedroom or adjacent home office. Otherwise he paces back and forth and turns the drool machine on overdrive. |

We call Annie "No Fear Annie" since nothing and I mean nothing frightens her! We just had terrible storms over the weekend and the dog next door totally wrecked their house while gone on vacation. She pulled down all the curtains and then clawed through two walls in the family room and ripped up a lot of their carpet. Thankfully we didn't watch her this time and the other people spent all day yesterday trying to put the house back together. We felt so sorry for her and now expecting more rain but a family member has come to take her to their house. We feel so fortunate that Annie slept through all the storms!

Brandy pays no attention to fireworks or thunderstorms which is good sense the neighbors around here have already started the fireworks and will continue until after Labor day they drive me nuts, but Brandy is fine. Charlie as he got older started to lay under our feet or go in the bathroom with no windows when it stormed. We had a border collie who would go into seizures during thunder storms it was bad. We forgot one time to tell my mother in law about her fear and it stormed while she was watching her and she had to call the vet. So it is a relief that Brandy doesn't react.
