We took in a roamer that's been hanging around a friends house for a month. He looks, walks and talks like a basset. But his eyes are a redish brown not the dark brown I'm used to seeing. Do some bassets have eyes this color? Or is this a possible sign of some mixing? We're going to try and find him a home and want to be knowledgeable when I post the ad.

Here is the link to the AKC breed standard:
http://www.akc.org/breeds/basset_hound/index.cfm "The eyes are soft, sad, and slightly sunken, showing a prominent haw, and in color are brown, dark brown preferred. A somewhat lighter-colored eye conforming to the general coloring of the dog is acceptable but not desirable" It's great that you've taken him in and are trying to help him- |

I don't knwo where you're located, but you might want to call the nearest basset rescue for getting him a home. They can also answer any questions about him.
Thanks for helping him out!!!!
