Well, I went....And it was one of the hardest things that I have had to do. I finally got ahold of basset buddies rescue and they had agreed to them going to foster here at my house. I went with a group through Clark County humane society
www.cchs-petshelter.org. They were there to protest.

My husband finally came around by that morning. I sent him to the picket lines while I went in to the auction.

The two bassets were in this cat crate and wouldn't even pick up their heads, they were so sad looking. As soon as anyone would go by them I would shoo them away. Auction time came and I missed out on one of the bassets because I got really confused with the bidding, I couldn't understand the auctioneer and I was so freaked out that I got out bid. I did however end up picking up a French bulldog pup though.

I begged the lady that bought the other basset to sell her to me but she wouldn't budge. That was the only time that I cried in the auction house. I had been able to hold in for quite awhile. I surprised myself.
I know one thing though, there are alot of animal lovers out there. 2/3 of the people that were there were from rescue groups. one lady went home with 30 dogs for rescue.

There were a total of about 220 dogs on the auciton block, most were pups.

Last night when I put them to bed, in one of my cat beds, that this was probably the first soft bed they have ever slept on.
My hubby and our inauguaral pair of fosters are in the following pics. I couln't get any of the inside because there were police patrolling every where.

Bless you for caring. Bless you for getting involved.

Were the dogs being auctioned by the puppymills to middlemen (in other words, were the puppymills profiting from this)? Media coverage helps raise public awareness, so I hope your local TV networks were contacted ahead of time so that they could run a story on it-

(I love Frenchies by the way)

Several News stations from all around Wisconsin were there covering as well as news papers. The media coverage is priceless for this cause. They are talking about a "million Dog March" on the capital regarding the legislation standstill on this topic.

Good for you for getting involved!, Do you think you will keep the dogs, or are you fostering until homes can be found?.

I don't think I could take on any more dogs, but also know I wouldn't have been able to stand by and do nothing in the same situation...

Hope it all goes well....

Great!!

I'm invovled with the fight in Pennsylvania to get new kennel regulations passed so that the puppymills will be driven out of this state (Lancaster County Pa. where I live is known as the "Puppymill Capitol of the East Coast"). Media and political support are really essential to shutting these hell-holes down.

Please keep us posted on how this progresses in your state!

I'll cannot imagine how emotial yesterday must have been for you - but thatn you SO VERY VERY MUCH for going and saving one of the guys & the Frenchie. I hope the woman who got the other basset will not breed him.

I'm so glad the media was there - until people realize the horrors of mills they will continue to buy from pet stores etc. The group who organized the protest (sorry, I forget their name) has done a lot to get the public and media involved. I know their last protest brought over 100 people out - I hope they did as well or better yesterday.

Please keep us updated on how your new guys do.
