Dozer-Digger

Dozer growled at me today.
I came home for lunch, which I don't normally do, and Dozer didn't hear me walk up to the gate. He was sleeping on their deck. Trying not to make any noise, I just stood there for a few minutes watching him. When I clicked the gate latch he opened his eyes and slightly raised his head, so I just stood still. Not able to fully see me, he looked towards me not knowing for sure what was going on, then he started to growl at me.
When he finally noticed it was me, he jumped up wagging his tail, and came running over.

At least now I know he's protecting the yard.

I've noticed that my dogs has poor sight, at least for recognizing things.
They would act aloof until I got close enough for them to recognize me, or
for my basset ones - smell me.
