I have been checking out various types of dog foods for Yogi and one thing I have noticed is that a number of dog food companies are putting garlic in dog food. I thought that garlic was supposed to be very bad for dogs? Has anyone else noticed this?

This is the food I have Rusty & Stickers on. I switched Wilson to it also. Everyone goes crazy over it. I notice less scratching and nice stool!

Yogi's mom, I've read that garlic is harmful to dogs and I've also read that it is not and actually has healing properties, so I'm thinking that the small amount that might be in the dog food would probably not be enough to cause any problems. There is so much conflicting information out there, that it's hard to know what is accurate and what isn't!

Garlic is toxic to dogs if the toxic level is reached like onions it can create a type of anemia. But in general little garlic is actually used and the toxicity of garlic is far less than it is for dogs, There are many reported health benefits to garlic most if not all unproven, or disproved. The amount of garlic in pet food is not going to cause a reaction all by itself. The dog food companys add it either for inhancing it tast or as a marketing ploy because many people believe in the health benefits of garlic.

Maggies Mommy: I am considering Eagle Pack but not the fish kind as I am not sure if Yogi would like it since I have tried to give him canned dog food with fish which he will not eat. He wrinkles his nose up at it and acts weird. I dropped some on the floor one time by accident and he sniffed it, next thing you know he is rolling around in the food! Apparently fish is not good for eating but great for rolling!

The food smells very fishy and they all go wild!! I put Wilson on it when I got him and he's done great! Gained weight, stopped scratching. You could buy the smallest bag and try it. They have several formulas that have good ingredients. The rep from Eagle Pack told me the fish formula and the Duck & Oatmeal are the ones the recommend for skin issues and anal issues
