2 weeks ago I switched my hounds to Eagle Pack Holistic Select Anchovy, Sardine & Salmon. They LOVE it!! I also did a switch with Wilson (the visitor). Everyone is eating great and producing nice poop! My concern is this:
All 3 of them are drinking almost no water! I would say my 2 are probably drinking 80% less! Also, Wilson is only taking a sip or two twice a day. I know the weather has been cooler but this is weird. I called Eagle Pack and they said they have heard that. Their food has a higher moisture content than alot of foods so the dog doesn't drink as much?? I have from the start of the food switch 2 weeks ago been adding some water to make a gravy. Do you think that's why?? To me, I'm not adding nearly as much as they use to drink?? They aren't due for their annual physical till the end of next month. They don't seem dehyrated?? I've tried the Reverse Osmosis tap, regular tap and spring bottled & distilled water. Same result?? Just looking for anyone's experience with something similar to this?? |

Patti, I'm going to switch to eagle pack too, just to see how they do. I'll let you know how it affects them , as Moose drinks gallons of water, but it makes sense that if the food is a better quality, they wouldn't need as much water.

Please avoid R/O and distilled water for drinking. At first I found it hard to believe but R/o and distilled water have been scientifically linked to depleting minerals in the body. Bottle water brands such as "disanni" which "purifies" the water does so through R/O but before packaging they add minerials for taste and also what I mentioned above. From the World Health Organization Health risks from drinking demineralised water Quote:

Yes, I am. They still aren't drinking much at all?? I called Eagle Pack dog food and the Rep. I spoke to said she has heard this before. Not on a daily basis but she has heard this. They are not dehydrated. Everyone is peeing okay so I am adding some tap water to their meals twice daily to make sure they are getting enough. It's just weird???

Since we switched to Wellness brand, Button and Elmer arent drinking as much water as they used to. When they were on Science Diet, they drank much more. I have also always put warm water on their kibble, not enough to make it mush, but to give it more gravy texture. It's still pretty crunchy, even with the water. I thought the old food must have had more salt?
