Out hunting wombats on a Friday night.
In order to get a wombat pot roast on the Saturday dinner table, it's a necessity to go hunting Friday night, the later the better. And the girls get's very excited when the darkness fell, they know the schedule. They will start singing, louder and louder - until we get out in the dark forest. I can't say for sure, but it sounds like they are singing: A hunting we will go, a hunting we will go Heigh ho, the dairy-o, a hunting we will go A hunting we will go, a hunting we will go We'll catch a wombat and bring him back And then we'll have him for dinner This is the dark, scary forest: The wombat tracks, Emma and Doris can tell weight, age, sex and the nearest family just by the smell: ![]() The determination is clearly visible, nothing can beat a basset as a hunting dog: ![]() Come on Emma! There's no time to lose! ![]() Where did he go? ![]() I dunno, seems like we lost him.....what a shame! Another Saturday with meatloaf! ![]() -------------------- The one that drools rules, :P Steinar - daddy and foodslave to Emma and Doris! http://www.basset-hound.no |

I'm sure there's not a wombat left standing with those two around.
What do you serve with wombat stew?

Seeing bassets doing what they were bred to do--especially those two bassets--is a truly magnificent sight. They're bred to hunt wombats? Now that you mention it, what *is* a wombat?

It seems like Emma & Doris have fooled me,
they have made me walk through the forest every Friday night looking for wombats, and now I've found out that they only live in Australia, and it's not easy to find them there either. Not strange we've had so little luck! Needless to say, they are now grounded - at least on Fridays..... But nevertheless, the adventure inspired Sandy to write another fine poem about Emma & Doris: They are such mighty hunters the bassets Emma and Doris tracking down the creatures that live so deep in the forest Sly Wombats? a chinch! No match for Emma's stealth Turkeys? a breeze! For Doris is in good health Yes, Steinar's table is plumb full of bounty, it is often said because in Norway, it seems all the wombats n' turkeys are dead! What great pictures. I think my girl would die if i took her to the snow. We are having 40 degree days and its HOT...
As for your wombats well the are pretty easy to find, if you look in the right places. We have them pretty close to our house, and gee they are noisy. You really don't want to hit one of them or a Kangaroo in your car, they leave so much damage that your car is normaly unfixable!! Bugger... |
