Hi all. I know it is hard to see from the pics but I am worried that my Bella is not growing properly. When I see pics of other babies at this age she seems very little. We had another bad night last night. This time she peed on my bed. We weren't sleeping. She followed me in there, jumped on my bed and just peed! I am going to get her to the vet sat. because I am feeling like there must be a problem.

How old is Bella?

I too worried that my 6 month old was not "big" enough as compared to other puppy pics on this forum. But each Basset is unique in its own way!

I would do a "healthy puppy" checkup at your vet to make sure everything's fine. The $90 spent is worth the worry if you need peace of mind. However, peeing in the bed is often a behavioral issue and may need to be addressed from a training perspective and not a medical perspective.

As tstonich suggested, a vet check sounds like a good idea-I think it's best to rule out any medical problem first- UTI's are not uncommon-

Hello,

She looks very healthy and beautiful, clear eyes, lovely coat and just the right size. Some bassets are smaller. Jasper is a small male, only 45 lbs, but the vet says he is very healthy. The pee thing I don't have any answer for. She is a georgeous girl though, some bassets are harder to housebreak than others. Jasper was six months old when we got him and it took us eight months to fully housebreak, to the point where he would give a certain sound, not a bark, but more of a soft arfff when he needs to go out.

My Stickers is very small compared to her littermate Rusty. What does her Vet say?? They will tell you if she needs to put on some weight. As long as you are feeding her a good dog food I wouldn't worry about it.

Here's Stickers:

Fred was a little bit underweight when I first got him. I was afraid and I took him to the vet. The vet said he was healthy and he would get bigger as he continued to grow. Well, the vet was right. Fred is 1yr and and 4mths and he is 44lbs. Give it some time. She is still a young pup. As far as the peeing goes, put her on a schedule. Between 3mths to 1 yr, I took Fred out every 15-20 minutes, even in the wee hours in the morning. During the young months, they don't have bladder control yet. After she gets about 1yr old, she won't pee until you take her out, if you get her on a schedule. Its hard at first, but you'll get the hang of it, just as I did. Consistency is the KEY!
