I woke this morning to find that my basset, Topper, chewed through some of my christmas lights on my tree. I haven't put the ornaments up yet, but has anyone had a problem with their bassets and christmas trees or decorations? He is only 8 months, so this is my experience with a basset and a christmas tree. Thanks.

When I put my tree up last year, Fred would pull the ornament balls off the tree. Lucky for me, my tree is pre-lighted so he can't pull or chew a string of lights. We will see how he does this year!

Toughyu till the day he died loved glass ornement. Knocking then down and batting then around was way to garish for him. Nope. He carfully removed the with his mouth and moved to a suitable location with them, the only time he would ever carry anything in his mouth. He would then bit down on them until the exploded with a pop cuasing him startle. with in 5 minute if he could find another he would do it again,

Well with Presley's obsession with lights and shadows..my Christmas tree has to be put up on a table..out of her Hound dog reach...

Bassets & Christmas trees--BWAHAHA. Like Toughy, ours love to steal the glass ornaments and bite down til they pop them. They chew up the cloth ornaments. They get underneath the tree and pull the tree skirt out and across the room. They push the round ball ornaments around with their noses....all good holiday fun

We find a few ornaments in the back yard every year in the spring, when I start gardening. I only put the safe ones along the bottom of the tree ...and I do try to keep the dogs away. But we have a doggie door that stays open ...which means most of the thievery goes on after I leave for work.

This will be our second Christmas with Rusty & Stickers. I don't trust Stickers. She is the one who will get into trouble when we leave and Rusty won't play with her. I KNOW she would take ornaments off the tree and chew them just for something to do. SO we put our Christmas tree in the formal living room (where we don't sit ) so it stays safe! Hopefully next year we can trust her.
