My boy Spencer is also allergic to wheat! Here in Cincinnati, we have an international food store that has a fairly good selection of wheat-free treats. However, they are not cheap! Most are $4- $6 a bag. I have not had any luck finding any at dog supply or grocery stores. Some of the brands I buy are: Newman's Own, Health Pro, Bark Bars, & Ginger Ridge. All are made in the USA, with the exception of Newman's Own, which are made in Canada. I've found others, but they were made in China & I'm leery of that! The cheapest way to go is to make your own! Use any dog bone recipe, but substitute regular flour with rice flour. This is a much drier flour & I've found it necessary to add more water, applesauce or whatever to add moisture. Also, this flour does not work well in recipes where you roll the dough out & use a cookie cutter. But, if you are just going to drop blobs of dough on the cookie sheet, it works great! (And the dogs don't care what shape the cookie is in!)

Innova makes a "health bar - baked dog treat" that does not have wheat. Igredients are: turkey, chicken barley, chicken meal, oatmeal, potatoes, rice, chicken fat, herring , flaxseed meal, apples, carrots, cottage cheese, alfalfa sprouts, eggs, and garlic. Bogie loves them. They are rectangular bars about 2" x 1". Our local pet store carries the Innova products.

Connie, those bars sound delicious. I bet Rusty would like them.

Those Innova bars are the treat of choice in our house. Both our kids love them, Sally has food allergies and she has no trouble with these.

Are the Innova treats called "Karma Biscuits"? Just wondering. The dogs loved them. I kinda forgot about them. I bought them during the petfoods scare earlier this year, when we switched to the Innova dog food. Which they hated.

I've been looking for wheat free, egg free treats for Ruby. She hasn't been tested for those ingredients but seeing that she has such skin allergies, I thought I'd try to locate those two items (off of the ingredient list).

PLUS, maybe I'd try them too. As I don't like to consume either one of them! I'll be making them from scratch real soon; been experimenting with recipes. Once I perfect it, I'll send it out.

Janice and little Ruby (who loves trying the biscuit recipes)
