These dogs will be the death of me ...

I was in the middle of giving a haircut this morning around 10:30 when my cell phone rang. It was an older gentleman who said he had my dogs. WHAT??!! But my angels are at home, safe and sound. I just left them sleeping two hours ago.

NO ...he had two very thirsty and tired Bassets. He found them trotting down the bike path, one behind the other. He got off his bike and looked at the collars and called me.

I left my client in my chair and rushed to get them. I picked them up and took them home. I checked the gates and the yard guys left the north gate unlatched and they must have just discovered it today. They were here yesterday afternoon.

THESE DOGS!! They basically took themselves for a walk. This has happened once before but the neighbors found them. We have a four mile bike path behind our house so they know exactly where to go. They went on our regular course ... just trotting along, sniffing ...

From what the guy said, they did not go near the roadway ...they stayed on the path  I guess that was supposed to be reassuring.

That's such a horrible feeling. I'm so glad someone took the time to call you instead of walking past.

I hope your client is a dog lover so she understood your leaving her!

I vote that you flog the yard guy.

I had something similar happen once. I was having my roof replaced, and although I'd told the manager to let me know what day they'd be coming so I could keep the dogs up, the roofers showed up unannounced one day after I'd gone to work. When I got home I saw the gate open and knew the dogs were gone. At the time I lived on an extremely busy street, and I panicked. I was running through my neighbors' back yards calling the dogs when I saw a police car in one of the driveways. I became hysterical, positive that they'd been hit by a car. The police woman realized what I thought and shouted at me "They're okay!" When I got up to her car, there were Lightning and Stomps in the back seat, happy as clams. But they had been trotting along the side of the road, and would have been killed if not for the police officer. I called the owner of the roofing company the next day and left him with several new orifices.

Yes, Mr. Jackson will get a call tomorrow, fors sure! He's usually good about the gates so I never worry. The problem is with his helpers that he brings.

I just ordered new collars and ID tags. The guy that found the dogs had trouble reading the tags. I didn't realize how dented up and dirty they were. I found a couple of good websites, which I am going to post as a new topic.

Last September (maybe it was August, not positive) I got furniture delivered. Well the delivery guy left my gate open. I was getting ready for something when the doorbell rang. A girl from down the street was standing on my porch with Lily (I didn't have Gibbs at the time). I was extremely upset. Thank goodness our street is so quiet and everyone knew where to return Lily (she didn't have her new tags yet since we just moved. :( )
