What breed am I?

The stray rescue place where we got Jade said she is a year-old Shar Pei/ German Shepherd mix. I see the Shar Pei but she is so petite I wonder about the shepherd or if there is something else. She is 43 pounds, I'm guessing she is about full grown since she is supposed to be about a year old. Her coat is coarse, only the top of her head is soft & silky. Her legs are skinny and long (what else would I think after José the basset, ANY dogs legs look skinny & long!).

She is very lean except she has the rolls around her neck & just one around her butt when she sits! One weird thing is that her toes are webbed. And... she walks on our wood floors like they're made of ice! If she gets all excited she does that cartoon thing like Scooby Doo... runs in place on the floor then takes off! When she is jumping around all excited she seems to bend her back rounded over but then her paws bat things around like a cat or a boxer.

I just heard about how you can send away a saliva swab from your dog & for like $65 they tell you what breed(s) your dog is! Kind of intriguing, but for now I will poll the panel here -- Any dog experts out there that want to take a stab at what she is?

I don't have a good picture of her long neck, maybe these two next pictures show it a little. When she extends it , it's so long and she has this little peanut head the same size as her neck!

Hi!!

I think it's fun to try to guess what makes a dog what it is!! They can be made of so many different breeds!! Most everyone will see something different....

I do not see sharpei in this dog....I would need a close up of the feet to be sure...they have peculiar shaped nails and a rounded "roman" nose. I would not rule it out though!!

The webbed feet say lab...those ears have Jack Russel Terrier written all over them...and the mask says shepherd....there could be 3 or more breeds in this dog....

I can't wait to see what others think!!

What a great thing you did by rescueing him!! Thank you!

I totally see the shar pei. The webbed feet and that neck also made me think Lab. And maybe there's some shepherd thrown in there too. I wanted to find out for sure what breed my horse was, so I asked the vet if a DNA test would determine that. He said no. So I'd be very skeptical of that DNA test. But if you want to send me $65, I'll tell you she's a shar pei/lab/shepherd! Whatever she is, she's a beauty and I bet she has a great temperament.

I wonder if there's Malinois mixed in with the Shar Pei? Malinois have Shepherd characteristics, but are smooth coated, long legged and really not very big. I've seen some that only go about 40lbs. (not conformation quality, though).

Whatever she is, she has beautiful eyes.

Thanks for the input. Heinz 57 sounds so much better than mutt! She is very sweet, whatever she is. She has some similarities to José... she just sits and stares at people we see on walks! And thankfully, like José before her, this girl likes her sleep in the morning (how my brother gets by with a 5:30 am wake up call from the border collie, I don't know). And, like José, she doesn't bark much - only the occasional one when she is so excited or playful.

One day, I am sure I will be back... showing the pictures of a basset hound playmate for Jade. Maybe next year... we will see how my husband progresses. :p

I totally see PUG! Definatley, pug. Mixed with something else too!
Too precious no matter what![/b]

Agreed. The tail, color, body and ears say Pug. He looks like a Pug mix we had a while back. Seems like a pug/lab mix. Here's a picture of Buddy, our old Pug mix. He was a Pug mixed with Chihuahua Ahhh, buddy.

She is beautiful, whatever her gene pool.
