Hi everyone, I have been on this board since 2001 (contrary to what my profile says - had to re-register..grrrr) when I got my basset José. Many of you may remember we lost José to cancer in March, when he was only 5 years old. That was very heartbreaking for us. Quite unexpected and quicker than I thought possible. One day he was throwing up, a week later we had to put him down. After 6 months I finally got the urge to think about a dog. There were actually two bassets down the street that needed a home (long story that I will save for another post!) but we ended up with a loveable mutt with the shortest ears ever for a dog!! I guess I won't need to wipe them off after eating or drinking. We found Jade on petfinder at a local stray rescue organization. She needed a home and seemed perfect for us. They say she is a year old, 1/2 shar pei and 1/2 german shepherd... but she is only 43 lbs. So I am not sure what she is?? She is darling though, and after two weeks with us, is realizing that we are her family.
I still look on this board pretty regularly. It's hard to shake the basset addiction! Here is a picture of our Jade:
