So the hounds are exactly 2 weeks away from their first birthday (they grew up too fast!) and I've swithced them over to the Adult Nutro Natural sensitive stomach from the puppy version of the exact same food. Suddenly the house and back yard looks as if these two should be bald! I've never encountered so much hair from two bassets in my life!!!

I'm just wondering is it the food? I live in Texas and its been hot for a while so I know its not the winter coat falling out.

So if you guys think it might be the food, I'm thinking of switching to a different formula of Nutro. Otherwise I guess its just time for a good ol' pumace stone brushing (works better on bassets than the furminator - I worked for a while at a grooming salon).

Mine are starting to shed like mad!!!! I usually notice this by the end of the summer. Coincidentally, I also feed Nutro Weight Management ...but the "Ultra" formula. The Fat Boy Plan! I think it's probably just about as hot as it's going to get and our dogs are shedding extra hair to cool off. Our vacuum canister is FULL every time we use it. It's always about August or September. And I am in central Florida.

I doubt if it's the food. Bassets shed like crazy this time of year, getting ready for their winter coat. I could vaccuum twice a day right now. Instead, I like to wait until gigantic piles of dog hair accumulate, to conserve energy. I'm very energy-conscious.

Jeffrey's 7 months and just started shedding like crazy too. We have white hairs on all of the dark things, and black hairs on all of the light things. Nothing is exempt. Our vacuum gets a workout!

My three have been blowing their coats like mad. Charlie's six and a half, Edith Ann is three, and they've never done this in the past. A number of friends told me they've been going through this with their bassets, too, so our assumption is -- it's something in the air !

I've "created" a couple of new dogs with all the fur being shed. The only upside is that the birds use it for their nests. I'm always happy when I can recylce things!

Shedding has sped up here, too! Bogie Carter is getting brushed every day now, and the vaccum is busy.
