I am considering traveling with my pets in the near future. I am wondering about the condition of rooms where pets may have been in the past. Do you find that there is an odor or other issue(s)? Or have you had an overall good experience? I know that for the most part pet owners would try to be very careful about cleanliness and potty issues, but I believe there are some out there that might not pay as much attention to these things. I am wondering if by requesting a pet friendly cabin or room, I might be getting something that is less in quality. Forgive me for this ignorance, but I have never traveled with my pets before and am curious. I am looking at our options for our next big outing and wanting to take my two basset babies along.

I've spent the past year taking Bogie on every vacation I've been on, always in pet friendly places. I've never found the quality of where I've stay to be less than any other room. In a big hotel, it just seems like they use a particular floor or wing of the hotel as dog friendly, to keep them away from other guests, but by no means do all the rooms in that area have dogs in them at all times, so they keep them just as clean for the regular guests. Often, the hotel may tack on a charge for extra cleaning because you've brought a dog with you. Also they may have dog rules. One place directed me to bring my own sheets to cover the furniture in case the dog jumped up on it. I've always had a good experience travelling with my basset.

That seems to keep them happy.

When showing out of town, we stay frequently at Red Roof Inn (I think they're all over the country). Their prices aren't bad and all the hotels were recently renovated, so they're nice and clean. Never had a problem with the dogs in the rooms, though I tend to keep them crated most of the time. We usually ask for a room on the first floor, and they do their best to be accomodating......

We have stayed in Super 8's with our Bogie. No problems, very nice rooms. Not all Super 8's will take dogs, so call ahead.
