The August cover of RABBIT HUNTER magazine has a picture of 2 hunting bassets -- it;s nice to have the breed featured in this magazine. any one interested in seeing bassets in action should plan on coming to the hunt in PA on Labor day weekend -- i will post details soon
My immediate thought was "Oh the poor babies, their feet must be cold."
They are fine looking hunting hounds. My two were looking at bunnies (2 adults and a baby) out the bedroom window last night and they both fell asleep. Not hunters!
We have an explosion of bunnies this year. It's always amazing to me to see one of mine take off after a rabbit and catch it! Hounds are so fast when they want to be!
Enjoy the hunt - I wish I were close enough to see it.
Great cover! Rusty & Stickers would be good rabbit hunters. They "posture" when they see a bird!! Rusty is very strong and it takes all I have to hold the leash. He gets in a stance where he looks very big and strong and is focused on that bird or squirrel. I hope someday to take them rabbit hunting with some of the siblings.
Glad to hear fly hunting is a recognized Basset sport. Gunther and Belle love stalking flies, moths and bees.
Perhaps we should start a Fly Hunting Championship, then we could be on the cover of "Fly Hunter" magazine. Of course, our theme movie would be "The Fly" (the original version, not Jeffrey Goldblum's) and our official dessert would be chocolate logs.
When Francis could see he was mad for rabbits. He would let out that crazy ARUUU of his and take off like a rocket! Poor little guy never caught one but it wasn't for lack of effort.
A few months ago while we were walking at the park a rabbit flew across our path and Fran caught wind of it and off he went, RocketDog was back for a few minutes at least.
