Poor Stacey. She decided she'd rather stay here for a while than come over so often, which is required for my babies.

So Stacey brought her daughters over and attempted to watch a movie on Saturday night, thinking it would be good for the dogs to have them around. I got a voicemail that they could not watch the movie do to the "antics" ...prancing back in forth in front of the TV, tossing of the toys, rolling on them and squeaking them non-stop. One by one, they brought them out to show her. I could have told them if they'd asked ...you cannot watch a full movie until you WEAR THEM OUT!!! You MUST PLAY FIRST. Otherwise, there is no peace.

She said it was like being in a daycare

She also got to witness the Basset 500. Several times, I'm told. She felt the cold nose shove her arm off the computer mouse ...they also performed The High Pitch Ear Splitting Whine when she didn't disperse the evening treats on time (I forgot to tell her about our schedule!)

In other words, she got to see what Bassets are all about. A full Evening Performance!

Well, whatever movie she thought she wanted to watch could not be as entertaining as the bassets!

I love watching the 500.

What a funny story, it all sounds so familiar. Sadie is really good for shoving my arm with her nose when I’m working on the computer, if I try to ignore her she will jump up and put both front paws on my arm, which will pull my arm off the keyboard or mouse. I have had dogs before the hounds and I always thought we spoiled them but their is nothing like a spoiled Basset and it sounds like most Bassets are very similar in their crazy antics and weird quirks. They certainly do keep you entertained.

Having a Basset is definitely a full time job. I love it when Jeffrey runs the Basset 500. It's so funny to watch!!! This is our first dog, and I'm wondering if other dogs run the 500 like Bassets do. Anyone know?

I've not seen other dogs do it. What I do know is that our mini-doxie does not do the 500. However, when Copper is, she goes under the couch. When he runs down the hall, she sticks her head out, but as soon as he heads back for the living room, she slides back under the couch!

A couple of my non-houndies have tried to run the 500 on occassion. They seem to get about halfway through a lap and come to a dead stop. Then they look at me with a "what's happening here?" look. They are getting pretty good a howling, though.

The sitter has three dogs, all different breeds, and they do not do the 500. They will run around but not in the playful patterns. Even my sister's little Jack Russell runs around fast but mostly it's running AWAY and not wanting to give something up. The Bassets run with absolutely nothing in their mouths ...they just zoom around, room to room.

She said she's never seen anythink like a Basset. Mine were her firsts. From the moment we got Belly, he has been her favorite entertainment

Mastiffs run the 500, usually in the evenings....when they run, you need to make sure your couch is against a wall because they will use it as a backboard to turn around!!

I can relate to the daycare center comment....Fred is always busy, pulling toys out of the toy box or bones out of the bone box....I can here him pushing them around trying to select just the right one!! CUTE!!!

I have watched Fred in action and he is stealthy! If he wants something from the other dogs, he takes it....his technique is to walk up to them while they are laying on the floor chewing on something, and put his behind in their face, when they move their head to the side he takes the item and runs....leaving them stunned and looking around for it!!
