60 pound "cats"

I couldn't believe the noise coming from the other room. Furniture was knocked over, the couch was slid away from the wall, and 8 huge paws thumping on the floor. Then I saw it. A mouse running across the floor, and my two 60 pound "cats" chasing it with no regard for anything in their way.
The good and the bad, they didn't catch it. I wanted to get rid of the mouse, but I really didn't want them to catch it.

Years ago, before bassets, when I free-fed our dogs, we had a 'pet' mouse who would spend an hour or so every evening coming up through a hole near a heating pipe, cross the family room door to the dog's bowl, grab a piece of kibble, back across the doorway and down the hole. The whole time, Sam, our lab/golden cross, would be lying about two feet away, snoring!

I suspect Charlie would do as Sam did, but Eloise and Edith might be more inclined to give chase. We usually rely on the cats, though, as they do a pretty good job of getting rid of the mice (except for heads and tails -- ewwwww!!!!).

I wonder what that little mouse was thinking as your two gave chase?

What great watch dogs you have! Too bad they make more of a mess out of the
house than the intruder would do :D

Mr. Runcible sometimes comes to me with fresh killd mice too. I think they're trying
to find their inner wolf. My very first dog brought home a little mouse, long dead.
So you could imagine my surprise when the little thing started to move. Attack of
the zombie mouse! But alas, it was only because it was full of wriggling worms.
