Dart is my fabulous senior, who is about 11 years old. He had been horribly neglected & abused when I got him about a year ago but has never been anything except sweet and loving.

Last Monday he went to the vet to have some lumps removed. One of them turned out to be a very large tumor on his shoulder. On Wed. morning he was bleeding and leaking from his incision so it was back to the vet. The put a drain in and bandaged him up and he came back home. Thursday the bandage seemed really wet to me, so it was back to the vet. They assured me it was normal and told me to come back Sat. to change to bandage. On Sat. they discovered some of the stitches had broken so they kept him there all weekend. Unfortunately hubby brought him in on Sat. - I would've taken him home and brought him back Monday.

Yesterday they resutured him and found a lot of necrosis, that had been causing a lot of the problems. He had a checkup today and everything is (finally) looking good. We also got the lab results back from the original tumor and it was a squamous basal carcinoma. (Pardon my spelling!). However, it appears they got it all and we will just keep a close watch on him. I am optimistic about the future.

However, my sweet baby could use some spare drool! Please send any extra you have.

I took his pic yesterday when we got home - it was all he could do to wobble to his bed and take a long, well-deserved nap!

Thinking of Dart & hope he recovers well & soon. He looks so sweet in that picture. I have a soft spot for seniors - my "baby" will be 11 yrs old in 2 weeks.

Oh, the poor baby. Give him a soft hug and a kiss on the nose from another senior citizen (11 years old as well). It just breaks my heart when the seniors are not feeling well, but we are glad that he is on the road to mending.

p.s. Abby is not a "drooler" 'cept when we say "peanut butter", so I guess she gets some tonite to send Dart's way.

Dogs like this are what make the canine nature's most perfect beast.

Good luck in recovery Dart!

Hello,

Poor Dart. I love to see him all peaceful with his little sleeveless shirt on to protect his surgery site. Jasper went through a similar experience. My best wishes for a full recovery to Dart.
