Thumbs down

Even though I would recommend a compact digital camera for most users,
I wanted a camera that could take better pics in bad lightning, and freeze
actions better. Since I had a rather nice Canon EF 35-135 USM from before,
I bought a 400D, together with a Tamron 17-50/2.8.

I've just started to test it, but I hope that it will give me and maybe you too
some memorable moments of basset joy.

Here's some pics (reduced in size and quality):

The pics from last walk also was taken with the same camera:

That second shot of Doris is very nice Steinar.

Odd. I am in the exact same boat as yourself. I have a couple lenses from my 35mm Canon Rebel, and was just kind of waiting for the prices to come down on a digital replacement so I can use the same lenses. Your pics are just making me want to do it sooner rather than later. I miss my old camera!

They both look very regal! I agree!

I have to say, I'm very envious of your camera. I have been drooling over the Canon 30d for some time just waiting for the extra funds to flow so I can get it!

The third picture was especially beautiful.

I have a compact camera and as you say they really lack
something if you want to take pictures in bad lighting, but I've
also discovered that the pictures comes out really glary when
I take pictures in bright sun ligth.

Is the only solution for these two problems to get a better camera?

I have a nikon d50 and the standard 18-55mm lens that it comes with. We have some other nikon bayonet mount (nikkor) lenses that work with it, which was nice. We ended up buying a fabulous tamron macro lens (yoikes on the price) and a telephoto for the d50. I still use the standard lens more than anything and I take lots of pictures.

I just bought this weekend a canon sd800IS point and shoot. It takes some getting used to, but I'm beginning to really like it. My test model is not that crazy about having the big camera shoved in his face, so this seems easier on him.

One thing you might want to do is go to somewhere like dpreview.com and search for cameras and read the reviews. Next, go to flickr and search by camera and then search by subject or keyword and see if what you see is what you like.

That is what I did before I bought the canon. I also bought it locally, I wanted to feel it first.

Steinar, the girls are gorgeous as usual.
