I would have kicked that bird and protected my hound if he wasn't harassing it.

I was going to visit my sister-in-law at her home in an old renovated mill that had a beautiful small river running under it (I assume a water-powered wheel was once located there to provide power for the working mill). There are various water birds like ducks, geese, and swans that live and raise thier young there. It was dusk and a swan family was walking about on the lawn about thirty feet from the condo's locked rear entrance (where my sister-in-law lets us in after we knock on her window - the front entrance has doorbells but it's much further away from her corner unit). I had knocked on the window and was waiting by the door as I watched the swan family go about it's business when the parents spotted me. I was thinking "Oh how cute!" when one of the parents suddenly charged at me. I wasn't alarmed yet, believing that it would stop short of me. As it got closer I realized that it was as tall as I was (I'm five feet tall) and it was VERY angry, perhaps seeing me as a potential threat to it's babies. I began to feel real fear then. I was about to turn and run for my car when my sister-in-law finally opened the door so I threw myself inside and slammed the door in that p***ed off swan's face! I was scared half to death! I don't know if a swan can hurt a person but it was so big I didn't want to find out. To this day I look for swans before approaching that rear door!

I know of someone who had their knee cap broken by an angry swan. The leading edge of their wing is like a steel rod. Not to be messed with.

Oh please. I'd start by putting my size 12 in the center of that birds chest. I have a feeling it would get the message.

Swans and geese are not to be messed with! I know a man who was clearing a little pond on his land, not realizing a pair of Canadian geese were nesting there. He wound up with a broken arm, courtese of Papa Goose. These are big, strong birds, and even attempting to

Hehehe, are you all having a bad day?
You'd let an out of control wild animal attack your hound so as not to harm the aggressor, and you talk about a 20lb bird like it's a charging bear. I assume there's not alot of wild turkey hunters here, lol.

Wouldn't mess with a swan myself and I imagine as soon as that big ol' bird started coming at MY hounds, Sabian and Pearl would scoot out of there like there was no tomorrow! What is that old joke... you don't have to be faster than a bear...only faster than your companion!

The guy was putting his hound in harms way unnecessarily and foolishly. He had no business being near it. "Poultry" such as this can also put an eye out with their beaks. I noticed he was keeping himself away from the swan pretty well, though, the jerk.
I guess if it werent for folks like that, there'd be no "Funniest Home Videos" shows. And we'd all feel so deprived, now wouldn't we?
